Bolton has a thriving creative and digital sector grown from considerable talent and determination. This includes a significant numbers of writers, visual artists, musicians, designer- makers and a nationally acclaimed theatre, The Octagon. The town also has an increasing number of web design, telecoms, computer consultancy, marketing and creative agencies gaining awards and business from around the world. Bolton’s Creative and Digital Sectors are expanding as part of the GM Creative Hub, which is the 2nd largest hub after London in the UK. The Creative Economy is now accepted as an important contributor to the development of towns and cities in terms of place making, identity and economic growth. Creative Industries comprise advertising and marketing, architecture, design, film and TV, publishing, music, arts and digital/tech sectors and is currently a high growth area.
Supporting the sector and its growth is Bolton’s work and skills Partnership, Team Bolton. The Partnership works with employers to ensure all Bolton residents have access to improved training, skills and local employment opportunities to deliver our Economic Strategy. Members include Bolton Council, Job Centre Plus, Work Programme providers, Bolton at Home, Bolton College; Bolton Sixth From College, Schools Training Providers and the University of Bolton.
Employers are working with us to build up a picture of the skills that are required now and those that will be needed to meet future needs of local creative and digital businesses to ensure employment options are always available to all our residents and Bolton can thrive as change happens.
Work placement schemes provide opportunities and benefits to both individuals and employers. For those wishing to enter the Creative Industries they provide an insight into the industry, improve individual’s skills and support informed career choices. For employers, they are an opportunity to improve the skills of new entrants to the industry, raise the profile of career opportunities available within the organisation and develop management skills for existing staff.
