New and Exciting Apprenticeship Recruitment Service for 2018

In January 2018, Greater Manchester Chamber’s Apprentice Share service will be relaunched to offer a new and exciting recruitment service for your Apprenticeship needs.

Apprentice Share works with companies in the construction sector to recruit apprentices into short term contracts, this helps to sustain Apprenticeships in the sector by ensuring there is a smooth Apprenticeship journey in place. By working with several contractors across Greater Manchester on projects of all types we are able to offer the Apprentice maximum exposure to the sector, giving them real life work experience. Apprentice Share directly employs the apprentice and takes on all the responsibilities of wages, tax, National Insurance and the Apprenticeship Levy.

Since the service went live in 2012 Apprentice Share has helped place over 2000 apprentices across Greater Manchester by partnering and working collaboratively with over 50 developers and contractors. In 2018, the Chamber will continue to grow and develop this service with new opportunities and innovations for the construction sector.

The newly refreshed service will incorporate the Chamber’s Social Value award, which will give organisations the opportunity to show evidence of their commitment to fair opportunities for all in their procurement exercises.

Joy Sewart, Head of Skills Development at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said: "Our newly refreshed Apprentice Share programme helps employers offer people high quality apprenticeships and learn new skills.

“The Chamber's role in this is to help businesses find the best apprentices for their organisation and support them in the process. We look forward to working with employers in 2018 to help upskill their workforce to be the best it can be."

The experience for the apprentice is so much better because they get the chance to work in several different environments and get a wider variety of skills and experience but still have one employer. The new Apprentice Levy has created real uncertainty in the market place and it’s added value schemes like this that will bring back confidence to employers and prospective employees in the value of apprenticeships”.

The impact this service has in relation to Apprenticeship sustainability and career opportunity is valuable to both Contractor and Apprentice. Simon Atkinson, Construction Manager at Willmott Dixon commented regarding the Apprentice placed with him: “Jack excelled in every task I gave him and over time became more vocal and confident in his ability, always asking for new challenges. I would gladly work with Jack again on any project.”
